It’s not yet live for pre-orders but the Amazon main screen promises that it will be soon. Initial pricing on the Verizon Palm Pre Plus, after 2 year contract, is presently displayed at $149 (that’s with rebate already included). With twice the RAM and storage this sister to the Sprint Palm Pre has been reviewed as not much to drool over. It’s moderately faster and will be mainly of interest to those wanting to use a WebOS based device on Verizon. Look for the official launch this Monday January 25. While the contract free price has yet to be displayed it’s worth noting that the list price showing is $699 and that most other contract free phones sold by Amazon are priced $20 – $30 above list. Worth noting that Wirefly is showing the Palm Pre Plus at $99 after contract and the Palm Pixi as a freebie after contract.

Are you the type of person who loves Disney but hates the line wait? Within the theme park there are some tools for avoiding lines. You can always obtain a Speed Pass that provides a definite time when you can board the ride with no waiting. And Disney has announcement boards that display the estimated wait times at various locations in their parks. However if you’re just too tired to walk to one of their display boards you can check out the estimated wait times using a new application for iPhone, Palm Pre or Android devices.

From TouringPlans.com:

Today, we’re launching a preview version of Lines, a mobile website for the iPhone that displays estimates of wait times for every attraction at Walt Disney World.

For the past 10 years we’ve been obsessively researching wait times at Walt Disney World, collecting and processing a massive amount of data along the way. We’ve launched products such as Touring Plans and the Crowd Calendar to help you efficiently tour the parks and avoid the crowds.

In designing Lines, we thought a lot about the experiences we’ve had touring the parks: we’re standing in Frontierland and want to know how long the line is at Space Mountain. Is Soarin’ really a ninety minute wait? Will there be FASTPASSes left at Toy Story Mania if we get there at noon?

Lines was built to solve these problems, and we’re really excited to give you a sneak peek. There are many mobile applications doing wait times (Disney included), and accurate estimates are particularly challenging. We’re eager to see how accurate we can be.

Here are some of the ways Lines is different:

We independently estimate wait times

Ever wait in line for 20 minutes when the standby sign said 5? Or vice versa? Yeah, we have too. For Lines we use thousands of historical data points and a myriad of statistical models (prepared by a professional statistician) to estimate how long you’ll actually wait in line.

We love user data, but don’t require it

You can submit wait times via your iPhone (and you would be awesome for doing so!)–but we do not depend on it. Our product is useful on Day One, regardless of how many people are submitting times.

We predict… the future!

We estimate future standby times, when FASTPASS will be gone for the day, and when the peak wait times will be. Want to know if FASTPASS will still be available after dinner? We’ve got you covered.

Much, much more

Crowd calendar data, park hours, refurbishments, an attraction closure reporting system, all now available on your phone!

To give it a go, grab an iPhone and navigate to http://m.touringplans.com (other mobile platforms are on the way). You’ll need a TouringPlans.com subscription to use Lines during this preview. Lines is free to use for a limited time. We’d love your feedback!

UPDATE:: We’re now supporting Android and Palm Pre/Pixi phones!

TouringPlans via Android Community

Online technology blog aggregation site Techmeme.com has just been updated to be iPhone, Droid and Palm Pre mobile browser friendly. The changes, which appear to have gone live last night, make the popular website easier to navigate on smartphone browsers. If you navigate to the full http://www.techmeme.com on a compatible smartphone browser (the site mentions Droid, iPhone and Pre – though we don’t know if other browsers such as Windows Mobile would work) you’ll automatically be redirected to the new friendlier web layout. Techmeme Mobile is available for all browsers at http://techmeme.com/m, but simply browsing http://techmeme.com/ will redirect there depending on your mobile device. If for any reason, you prefer to view the standard Techmeme page, a link at the bottom of Techmeme Mobile will send you there.

Mobile versions for memeorandum, WeSmirch, and Ballbug are available too, again by appending “/m” to the url.

This comes as Palm just launched their less capable (smaller screen / no Wi-Fi) Pixi online (Amazon has it for $49 after contract). The Palm Pre is a good choice for anyone not looking to deal with the complexity of Android and needing pretty good email, contact and calendar integration to Google and Yahoo services (added in WebOS 1.3.1).

Their first device, the Palm Pre, was met with major geek enthusiasm but only tepid mainstream sales. Now Palm is hoping for a hit with a lower priced (and less capable) version of the Pre that does away with the sliding screen, shrinks the screen a bit to . Unfortunately they’ve taken away Wi-Fi capabilities and the camera is only 2 megapixels (by comparison the iPhone has a 3.2 megapixel camera and most smartphones today ship with a 5 mp camera). Sprint’s site has this candybar shaped phone for $199 less a $100 mail in rebate. Avoid the rebate and head to the Wirefly site that has it as $24.99 for new customers activating on a 2 year agreement. Tip: Almost everyone is better off buying a Palm Pre because as BusinessWeek points out in their review – the Pixi works out to $74.15 a month and the more capable Pre to $76.25. Not much to choose from there in budgetary terms.
