My Palm Pre using friend Mark just emailed me. He purchased a Palm Pixi as a gift for his wife. Prior to the Pixi she was using a Palm Centro. Here are his thoughts which he agreed to allow me to re-print and I thought might be useful for anyone looking for a new smartphone for their wife:

The Palm Pixi as a gift for my wife? So far so good. Very spunky other than my usual beefs about the email user interface being a bit cumbersome for anyone who sends a lot of emails.

Palm really needs a ‘quick launcher’ type app standard as it’s always excelled at that on the Treo’s. I have a 3rd party one that’s ok, but not super polished.

The key thing is the ‘woman effect.’

It takes a bit longer to master a pre than an iphone because of the multitasking and gestures, but once they get used to it, its fine.

However, whenever she whips it out, all the ‘girlfriends’ ‘oooh and ahhh’ over it because its so small and thin compared to any of the other smart phones they’ve seen. (Hell, its smaller and thinner than practically any phone period) Remember fashion is as important  as functionality.

I think once word of mouth spreads and potentially Verizon get’s it, the Pixi may end up being their real hit in terms of ‘masses.’
