Windows Phone 7 off to Decidedly Consumerish Start

And by consumerish I really mean – people who’ve never owned (or wanted to own) a smartphone before.

The OS is nice and solid. The lack of applications is just plain disappointing.

You could argue that this is only a rev 1.0 of WP 7 — however would you buy a car these days that didn’t come with air conditioning? That’s what you’re getting with WP 7 as it stands today. It’s a phone – but not very comfortable due to the missing extra features (applications, OS) most people take for granted.

All of Microsoft’s top-downloaded paid applications for its newest Windows Phone 7 mobile devices are games — much like other mobile operating systems — compared to just one for its older Windows Mobile operating system, according to a report by Distimo.
