How To Force 3G on Google Nexus One

User Apogee on the Nexusoneforum has kindly shared one way to forced your Nexus One onto 3G data speeds. Some users have reported that their phone won’t lock onto 3G and instead switches back to EDGE. Seems there’s a programming menu that will allow you to specify 3G speeds only. Now, I have no idea if this means you’re phone gets no data connection if you live in an EDGE only area so experiment with this at your own risk — and let us know how it turns out.

It appears the programming mode for Nexus One is entered via the phone – type in *#*#4636#*#* and press the call button.

Warning: I have not verified that this works as my house is squarely in a 3G coverage area. Proceed at your own risk and realize that changes to the programming menu are not generally for the faint of heard and can be harmful to your phone. You brick it and you own it.

Update: As reported on the Nexusoneforum.net if you swap your settings to 3G only and then move out of a 3G area to one that has only EDGE you will NOT get any data coverage.

I had this problem too of being stuck on EDGE and not being able to get 3Gnand i tried out this technique: it does work when you type *#*#4636#*#*njust set “wcdma only” instead of “wcdma preferred”, the phone then reconnects to the networknand voila: 3G is enabled once again!nOnce this is done just put the setting back to “wcdma preferred” and your finished!
