AT&T’s “New” Unlimited Plan is Still $9.99 Higher Than Their New October 2009 Unlimited GoPhone

Don’t be fooled by these phantom price wars going on between Verizon and AT&T. The first move to “lower” prices was made by Verizon (hidden in all the fluff was a hidden $29 monthly data fee increase for any of the half gazillion high schoolers who buy a new LG ENV3 – which now requires an overpriced data plan). Now AT&T is out with their new unlimited plan. The only problem is their unlimited voice costs $69. Throw in another $20 per month for unlimited SMS text messaging. Your grand total is now $89 – a full $29 more each month that what you’d pay under AT&T’s own $60 GoPhone prepaid unlimited voice and text. See anything wrong with these numbers?

The hidden secret is that carriers know that nobody uses an unlimited number of voice minutes – but  people always think they’ll need more  than they do. So offering unlimited isn’t that big a risk – and in many instances people  upgrading plans  pay more and  use about the same minute they did before upgrading plans.
