It was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to open up the Sprint HTC Hero for root access (allows you to load customized ROMs and hacks –  but removes the ability for the device to  pick up future official carrier updates automatically).

This procedure is only for the true geeks – and most of the time if you’re phone’s working properly there’s little reason to do this. If your phone breaks while your following the procedure don’t cry to the carrier because they won’t help. In other words proceed with caution and only if you’re tremendously comfortable with these techie procedures.
