Pingie Goes Down for the Count

pingie rss feedJust this morning I was replying to my friend Mark about a service I’d used in the past to receive automated notifications when a web site posted a new story. My (former) favorite service that I’d recommended was pingie.com which allowed you to enter in an RSS feed and would send  a real time notification every time a web site added a new post.  I first wrote about Pingie back in 2008 at Geardiary. Since then I used this to track some of the bigger sites like Techmeme.com to provide immediate alert via email when new stories were being written across many blogs.  Unfortunately it appears that Pingie has met its demise – at least for now. Notices posted in November 2009 on the site indicate that due to database troubles (aka – no backup?) the site was forced to shutdown and “all user data has been purged”.
