Woman shoots herself with flare gun in basement of hospital

A woman was injured early Saturday afternoon after she shot herself with a flare gun at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

Fire officials say they were originally dispatched to the hospital at 2:21 p.m. for a smoke alarm activation that had occurred in an unoccupied loading dock area at the hospital.

But when firefighters arrived on scene, they say they were notified by hospital security that the alarm activation was caused by a discharged flare gun that had injured a woman.
